Absolute Truth

Reading the book "Fermat's last theorem" I found the following idea very interesting:
________________________________________________________

Mathematical theoreams rely on logical process and once proven are true until the end of time. They are absolute. To appreciate their value they should be compared with their poor relation, the scientific proof. A hypothesis is put forward to explain a natural phenomenon. Experiments may be created to test the predictive power of hypothesis, and if it continues to be successful then this is even more evidence to back the hypothesis and eventually the hypothesis is accepted as scietific truth. Ultimately, it merely provides an approximation to the truth.
________________________________________________________

That's the beauty of mathematics, the ultimate truth.

Fermat's last theorem

Yeah.. that is the name of the book I am reading currently at my usual snail pace.
For the less-informed : Fermat was a great (amateur) French mathematician whose last theorem :
x^n + y^n = z^n has no solution for n>2
has intrigued the mathematicians world wide. Only recently someone has been able to prove this theorem.
In the book, Fermat is portrayed as an amateur who liked to hide to proofs of his theorems to 'challenge' other mathematician come up with a proof instead. Nasty.
But I am sure he never would have thought that his theorems would play such a crutial part in modern computer cryptography and security. (I am sure no one could even have imagined a computer by then!!!)

Life .. or something like it!

I usually don't really like posting 'quotations' on life, because usually I find them all cliches. But this one is good:

Life is a Stochastic Random Process with non-stationary characteristics. Application of prediction algorithms and modeling is impossible. The absence of a deterministic component and presence of white noise makes each day interesting.

From the eyes of a techie...

I recently launched my Tech blog called Te-ch-liscope (better names?).
